Proximity to open space
Novato is surrounded by open space preserves, county parks, and hiking trails, including the 1,627-acre Mount Burdell Open Space Preserve purchased in 1977.

The Marin County Open Space District purchased Mount Burdell Open Space Preserve in 1977, preserving 1,627 acres around the 1,558-foot peak for public recreation. The preserve features hiking trails including the Old Quarry Trail, seasonal access to Hidden Lake at mid-mountain, and views across the Bay. Beyond Mount Burdell, the Novato area is dotted with preserved lands: Rush Creek Open Space Preserve, Indian Valley, Verissimo Hills, Pacheco Valle Preserve, and Stafford Lake County Park—each offering walking trails, picnic areas, or water recreation.
Popular neighborhood parks complement the larger preserves. Miwok Park, Josef Hoog Park, and Pioneer Park offer playgrounds and picnic tables for families. Stafford Lake features the 17-acre Stafford Lake Bike Park designed for cyclists of all skill levels. The variety means residents have year-round access to outdoor space within minutes: morning walks on Mount Burdell, weekend hikes in the preserves, or biking and fishing at Stafford Lake. Seasonal waterfalls and wildflowers add to the appeal during spring and early summer.
Outdoor activity and access to preserved land are part of what people value about living in Novato. Time with family and friends in these spaces—the kind of moments you're planning to protect—is one reason families buy life insurance. When you're thinking about the years you want to see your children grow, the vacations you'll take together, or simply the routine of a life built where you want to live, you're already thinking about coverage.
